A Fall From Grace

A Fall From Grace is a multilayered narrative told through the voices of now-elderly women who were once part of a Charismatic Movement known as “The Prayer Band.” Active from the mid-1970s through the early 2000s, this movement was primarily composed of single Black women and their children who followed the leadership of a self-governed spiritual figure.

This multimedia body of work—consisting of photographs, installation, sculpture, and stained glass—examines the emotional and spiritual complexity of their experiences. Through layered materials and personal testimony, the work reflects on devotion, control, survival, and the lasting impact of faith. A Fall From Grace illustrates the lives of the women who remain willing to share their stories, tracing both the weight of their past and their long journey toward healing and restoration.
